Snow Day: Life Sized Candyland

This blog is a place for all of my things. All of my thoughts about infertility, adoption, high risk pregnancies, motherhood. But also just some fun things, like activities I created while I was a two year old teacher/piano teacher/nanny. With the windchill nearing -50 degrees here in Wisconsin, and all the kiddos home from school, I thought I would share with you one of my favorite indoor winter activities for kids, Life Sized Candy Land! I invented this set up with my most recent nanny babes aged 4 and almost 2 at the time. It’s super simple and SO fun!

What you need:

1.) Twister board spinner or Candy Land Cards if you don’t have a spinner.

2.) Construction Paper (colors of the Twister spinner: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue) ( or colors of Candy Land cards)

3.) Tape

4.) A pop up tent (kid sized or full sized) or just a blanket fort set up

5.) marker or pen (optional)

Setup:

Tape down the full sheets of colored construction paper, alternating colors or create a pattern, to make a large winding trail throughout the house (We went big and made ours wind throughout the kitchen and hallway)

Next, setup your tent or blanket fort at the end of your trail. This is your Candy Castle!

Optional: For older kids or to get out some more energy, you can write fun actions on each page of construction paper such as “spin in a circle” or “Jump on one foot”

How to Play:

1.) Have the kids line up at the start of the trail. Either you or the kids can spin the Twister spinner to see which colored space they will jump to. ( If using Candy Land cards, have each child pick a card to find out where they will go. Remove character cards first, or create special spaces for them in your trail)

2.) Basically play it out like Candy Land! Keep spinning and jumping to different tiles until one or all of the kiddos have reached the Candy Castle.
